At the beginning of this year (09-10) the church board began looking at ways to increase our organizational effectiveness.  We were painfully aware that the current structure was designed for churches of about 100.  This system ran all decisions through the pastor and one board charged with complete oversight of the church.

During the last year we have prayed, researched and talked about the best way to do this.  This fall we came to a consensus on a new system.  We received tentative approval for our District Superintendent and spent a  couple of months testing the system.  Early this month we sought formal approval from the District Advisory board to proceed with the new system and have now received that approval.   On Sunday evening February 21st at 6 pm we will hold a “town hall” meeting to answer specific questions about the new system.  Everyone is invited.  On Sunday Morning February 28th we will hold elections under the new system and will be operating under that system at the beginning of our new fiscal year March 1st 2010.

Old System

One church board made up of Trustees and Stewards charged with responsibility for the whole church.  Additionally there were auxiliary organizations such as NMI (Missions), NYI (Teens) Sunday School and Christian Life that cared for specific areas.   Organizational experts who have evaluated this system have informed our denomination that that this system works best with churches of about 100.

New System.

We have created of two separate boards.  First, we have created an Elders Board that is charged with the spiritual life and health of the congregation.  This board will function as the legal board for the church.  Second a Deacons board that is charged with managing the material resources of the church.  This board reports to the Elders board.  Auxiliary groups will continue to function in their areas of responsibility.

Below you will find some of the documentation from MCN’s Reorganization.  We hope these are helpful in understanding the change.
